Every backup WesTech manages — server, endpoint, or email — is encrypted, stored off-site, and monitored. How long it's kept depends on what it's protecting: server backups use a retention period customized to your recovery and compliance needs, desktop and laptop backups carry a 90-day minimum, and email backups are retained indefinitely. Each protection type runs independently, so you can start with what matters most and add the rest later.

Hard drives fail. Ransomware encrypts everything it can reach. Someone deletes the wrong folder, or an account gets compromised and wipes what it can. Native cloud tools like Microsoft 365's recycle bin were never built to be a real backup — they weren't designed for it.

Cloud Retention

Retention built around what you're protecting

Retention length isn't a technicality — it's often the difference between having a clean backup to restore from and not having one at all. That's why it isn't a single number across the board.

Ransomware doesn't strike right away

Attackers frequently sit inside a network for weeks before encrypting anything. Too short a retention window means every backup you have could already include the compromise — retention has to reach back further than that to give you a clean point to restore from.

Set by what it's protecting

Server backups carry a retention period customized to your recovery objectives and compliance needs. Desktop and laptop backups carry a 90-day minimum. Email and SaaS backups are retained indefinitely, since mailbox history rarely has a natural expiration date.
